The snow took us by storm

With four days of heavy and chilling rain behind us, snow seemed unlikely. The news reports and buzz around campus said the flurries would come, be ready. Sitting at my desk in one of my tiny pink chairs I saw the weather shift before my eyes.

Each raindrop began slushing through the air as if it were pellet ice. The slush turned to graceful flakes, and soon we were blanketed. All of the sudden our world was covered in a dramatic, elegant frosting.

Everyone was filled with excitement that use to come when the hopes of school cancellations were lingering. The roommates and I then did what we do best: made an adventure out of it. We layered the tights, bundled ourselves with scarves and mittens and trekked through the madness of an ill-prepared Tennessee town.

We returned to our safe haven of a home only to filled our mugs with hot cocoa and peppermint schnapps. Candles, giving the illusion of a crackling fire, were clustered in our empty fireplace. The ambiance couldn't have been more comforting and wonderful and cozy.

The house creaked under the weight of our "big snow," and we woke up today only to find it either muddy or dissipated. But this is a memory that will always be with us. A memory that can be retrieved when looking back upon the unforgettable college years.

  1. Love that picture of your big snow! I can smell the cocoa & peppermint schnapps :))) Totally reminds me of being snowed in at my parents' big farmhouse, heat cranked, jammies on, everyone cozy :))

  2. I love when the "big snow" hits unsuspecting southern towns while I'm at school. Arkansas always seems to get it during Christmas break when I'm sitting by the pool in the 80 degree South Georgia weather...sigh. Freshman year though we got several inches, they cancelled class, and everyone proceeded to the front lawn for a massive snowball fight. Classic.

  3. Have I ever told you I love your writing style? Well, I really do!
It's been snowing here for a week, it only stopped two days ago, craaazyyy! And I've been stuck in the city because of the exams. Can't wait to see my hometown covered in snow.
